Review: DESCRIPTION Most start this route from the Canning Lake Dam to the east of Minden, off County Road 17, where a short portage leads down to the put-in. A second vehicle can be parked at Balsam Lake Provincial Park, where County Road 121 passes near Cameron Lake in Fenelon Falls, or at the town of Rosedale near Highway 35. Overall, this is a moderate, Grade II-III semi-wilderness river that travels south towards Cameron Lake at Fenelon Falls. The route can be up to 80 km (50 mi) if you include the bigger lakes like Kashagawigamog and Canning in the north and Balsam in the south. The faster waters of the Drag River begin below the Canning Lake Dam and lead quickly to the Burnt River. A few campsites are scattered along the river, while a number of short portages help avoid low water or heavy rapids. Shortly after the Irondale River connects with the Burnt, a well-worn portage takes you around the magnificent Three Brothers Falls. ACCESS Most start this route from the Canning Lake Dam to the east of Minden. Across the dam off County Road 17 there is a short portage down to the put-in.
